Ronny Roos: “I like everything that has the smell of fuel”
Here’s what you call an exclusive passion: “I like everything that has the smell of fuel”. One must say that Ronny Roos who held his first handle bar at 6, learnt bike riding at an age when others learn to ride.
After years of enduro and motocross, he finally took on the Dakar. In 2005, he took off on the roads of Africa in the assistance of the Dolphin Rally team, for which he still competes today. The experience proved to be “amazing and unbelievable” but also exhausting: “We had a lot of work”, remembers Ronny. “There were times when I didn’t sleep for three days because there was so much to be done on the car”. At the end of the race, the Dutchman remembers promising that it would be “the last time”. “Three months later, I kept on asking my colleagues: ‘When are we starting over again?’ The Dakar is a disease that never leaves you”.
This year, on his KTM 690, Ronny Roos will be riding with his compatriot and friend John Braat: “He’s like a brother for me”. Concerning the race, the real-estate agent refuses to set an objective. “I don’t like making forecasts. All I know is that I’ll have to forget all I know and not take off full blast in the first days like all the motocross riders who want to impress at the beginning. You need to be patient if you want to reach the finish”. In his quest to see Buenos Aires, Ronny will be counting on his wisdom and for good luck, a picture of his wife and daughter.
