Fernando Cid de la Paz: “It’s THE rally”
“I competed in several rallies. But this one is THE rally”. Fernando is an accomplished sportsman and bikes are his passion. He started back in 1987 with motocross, and then took part in every possible rally in his country, managing fine performances at the Transpatagonico or the Por las Pampas races. But Fernando has also done triathlons and marathons with a personal record of 3h20’. Concerning the physical preparation for his first Dakar, he has therefore no worries: “Physically I’ve always had a decent level and concerning aerobe I’m rather good’’, he says. In other words, Fernando will be at his best. He simply regrets not to have worked on navigation enough. But thanks to three outings of 5-6 days during the last two months before the Dakar, with his friends Laurent Lazard and Alan Eduardo, Fernando has done the necessary to compete well. Under the eyes of his three children (17, 15 and 12 years of age) he will compete in his first rally at the age he had planned: “I wanted to do the Dakar before I turned 45. I have an unhoped-for opportunity that I will live at the fullest because I know all the different terrain. Maybe a bit less concerning the Atacama Desert”.
On a 525 Beta Racing and with a perfect assistance including his brother, Fernando Cid de la Paz, just hopes to finish… And maybe do even better.
