Jan Fronek : «I refuse to make a prediction»
“Since the age of 10.” He has dreamed about this for a heck of a long time. Jan Fronek will soon turn 40 and finally take part in the most legendary of rallies. Perhaps due to superstition, Jan “refuses to make a prediction”. The only objective he will admit to is to “see South America with my own eyes.” This versatile rider – a regular in motocross, enduro and during the winter, snowmobiles – has “trained very hard”. But, he is also a rookie. He competed this year in the Dakar Series of Central Europe: “My first major race.” The result: a “disappointing” 39th place, due to “the first mechanical problem in his career”. But “an enriching experience on which he will have to lean on to be successful on the Dakar”.
The Czech doesn’t have a specific strategy – “I will take the stage on one day at a time” – he hasn’t planned any celebrations in the eventuality he rides his way to the finish in Buenos Aires: “I will go back to work in my hotel”, he says simply. During the race, Jan will be able to count on support from his wife, who, in addition to working for the primary sponsor of her husband, will accompany him to South America. “The children will be with their grandparents during this time”, Jan laughingly explains.
