Ennio Cucurachi: “Thirsty for new worlds”

Ennio Cucurachi is a special case. Unpredictable, a go-ahead type, spirited, this Belgian with Italian origins is always on the quest of insane challenges, new sensations and virgin territories. In other words, on the Dakar that he hasn’t left for the last ten years, Ennio, “born for the sun and the sand”, feels at home. And even if his Mediterranean type temperament has often prevented him from finishing (2 Dakar finishes in 9 attempts), this pure biker perseveres with enthusiasm, never discouraged. Obviously the idea of a race on Latin soil had everything to attract him. “I’m always thirsty for new Worlds, new soils. In my life, I have never been to South America”, he explains delighted. “I promised myself that I would do at least a race on the five continents. After January, Australia will be the only one left”. Asia actually served as a practice terrain back in June, during the Saint-Petersburg-Beijing where this furniture salesman and aerial photographer “suffered a great deal during 12 000 kilometres”. Waiting for the start, Ennio Cucurachi is impatient as ever. Because even though he doesn’t want to shout it out, the Charleroi native hopes to manage his best ever performance this year: “entering the top 60 or even the top 50, at least be among the 100 best”. Whatever the result, the Belgian will enjoy the two weeks of racing. Indeed a road book and a bivouac are enough to make him happy. Ennio has biking in his blood.
