Balys Bardauskas : «Finish in the top 100 »
On the dawn of his first Dakar, Lithuanian Balys Bardauskas wants to be as optimistic as possible. “The first four days of the rally look to be very difficult, with very long and punishing stages. But after, it might be a little easier…” Balys says that he will “see how it goes”. A faithful motorcycle rider for more than 15 years; with a passion for enduro, he has spent the last two years preparing flat out for the Dakar. “It is such a pleasure to think that I will participate!” I have dreamed about it for the longest time…”
Balys isn’t coming to the race alone. With his training companions Sarunas Paliokas and Mindaugas Slapsys, they form a trio of Lithuanian “privateers” who will support and help each other all the way to the finish line. “I gained quite a bit of confidence on the most recent Red Bull Romaniacs, where I was able to finish the race.” A few days of training in Morocco allowed them to get used to riding in sand. His final objective remains nevertheless “rather modest”: finish “in the top 100”, which will be enough to satisfy him.
While Balys has never ridden in South America, he has already knocked about quite a lot. He lives in Vilnius; previously he lived in Chicago for two years where he made friends from around the world. He no longer counts how many countries he has been to: “Equator, Cuba, Thailand and Indonesia…” It is also his passion for travelling that has brought him to his first Dakar. Here’s betting he will leave Argentina and Chile with a few more addresses.
