Jean-Charles Laversin: « The Dakar, a big gift to myself »
Jean-Charles Laversin had to wait so long before being able to pay for his first Dakar that it is hard for him to express his feelings. He doesn’t want to do anything else before living out the adventure he has dreamt about for so many years. “You can’t get carried away”; he admits. «It is so long, you have to try to stick it out and not hesitate to ride slower than you are capable of to make sure you don’t fall.” At 43 years of age, Jean-Charles knows this may be his one chance to do the Dakar. “When I entered, I said to myself it was now or never”, he remembers. “It is a true culmination.”
For his first scares on the Dakar, the entrepreneur, who admits to having a bit of apprehension, hasn’t set a specific objective. “I just want to take in as much of this race that I have dreamt about. Beyond that I equally want to finish the rally.” Jean-Charles is concerned he doesn’t have the fitness to go to the end. “I am particularly scared about the lack of sleep that accumulates from one stage to the next”, he says before adding: “I think that once I am there, it won’t be as stressful.”
For now, Jean-Charles still thinks about the sacrifices he had to make to be able to compete on the Dakar. “I worked a lot to pay for this. I have given myself a big gift.”
