Stanley Watt : «Fast when I can, slow when I have to”
Stanley Watt isn’t used to doing things simply for the fun of it. A competitor at heart, this former Suzuki rider took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times and would love to finish high up the leader board on his first Dakar. “To finish among the top 20 would be good,” he says. Even though he is aware of the rally’s degree of difficulty, he knows it will be quite a challenge just to finish. “I’ll have to ride intelligently. « Go fast when I can, slow when I have to”
The challenge will be shared this year, for Stanley Watt and friend Jonathan Stamper, who met when they were in the army. That is where Stanley first got the itch to become a motorcycle competitor. “I did a few races while in the army and because it went well, they gave me more time to do it just until I became a professional”.
Always up for an adventure and a good challenge, Stanley and Jonathan haven’t neglected their preparation for the 2009 Dakar. They took on a coordinator, a coach and two mechanics and were successful in convincing a number of sponsors to furnish them with the necessary products and parts. Along with some other competitors, they have also associated themselves with the Riding for Health campaign, which helps victims of motorcycle accidents and their families to get a new start on life.
