Sylvio Barros: «I have a very good sleeping bag »

His first experience didn’t go further than stage four. A heavy crash in Morocco, assorted fractures to his left hand and memory loss, brought the Sylvio’s hopes to an end. Helped by a Brazilian rider, he made his way to the closest fuel service area, and then quit the race without any memory of what happened. One year later, Sylvio has regained his memory and has very well analysed this first try. “I didn’t sleep very well the night before. I didn’t have a very good sleeping bag and I was cold. A lack of sleep and concentration and I crashed”. But this year, Sylvio is ready. “I have been training since last February, I chose a KTM 450, which is easier to manoeuvre in the sand than the 600 I had. I understand that you have to be conservative, especially in the beginning. I meditate and do yoga”. Sylvio, lost in the Sao Paulo megalopolis continues along his way to add the Dakar to his list of accomplishments as a modern day adventurer. His goal is to finish. Along the way, he intends to prove his capabilities, to put himself in difficult situations and expand his horizons. He sums it up with one sentence. “The Dakar is also the power to come in contact with yourself”. A fan of lectures with a preference for Milton Friedman, Alan Greenspan and current events, he has a blog where he wonders about technologies and their influence on human relations. But on the race he won’t have time to read it. “Sleep in too precious and I have taken a very good sleeping bag…”
