If everything goes according to plan, on January 10, 2009, the Dakar rest day, Dusan Randysek will become a father for the third time. The Czech hopes to still be in South America when the moment comes. In his first Dakar in 2007, he retired on stage four, after having ridden on “a very fragile motorcycle and not at all adapted to the event that had one problem after another”. This year, the Czech will rely on his KTM 690 Factory Replica to get him to Buenos Aires, “in the top 30 if possible”. This would be a fine success for this avid biker of more than 20 years.

Dusan Randysek is a globetrotter thanks to a nomad childhood. “I grew up in Australia and lived in Canada for several years. This made me want to discover the world.” And before the South American voyage, that he already knows a little about, Dusan rode the 11 000kms of the Transoriental this year in which he finished a very promising 8th place.

Last year, Dusan entered without assistance. This year, he is backed by “a very good team”, Km Racing and will benefit from the truck of fellow Czech Martin Macek. Dusan restores collector automobiles and doesn’t hide his hope of one day of doing the Dakar in car. “But I can’t as yet afford Peterhansel’s car”, he says with a smile.
