Rafael Ciscar is a 100% Dakar competitor. “I will go anywhere just as long as A.S.O. organises’’. This total loyalty to the king of off-road rally events and to its organisation was built throughout his many appearances that allowed him during the 2006 and 2007 editions to reach the Lac Rose and finish 52nd and then 45th. A little exploit for this pure amateur from the little village of Paiporta, south of Valencia where he was able to promote the event to his fellow citizens. “I have a good group of friends supporting me. We train together. They share with me my preparation”. Thanks to his five consecutive appearances, Rafael even managed to perpetuate his sponsors. Indeed the biker knows how to share his passion. Even during the race, every day he writes a chronicle for the local newspaper. “People like what I publish in the newspaper. I write a very humanlike chronicle where I share what goes on at the bivouac, what I see. Nothing really about sports but on the other hand everything that shows what we feel and what we live on a Dakar”. The concept started with the daily ‘Las Provincias’ has also convinced ‘Super Deporte’ a regional sports daily for 2009. Rafael has however suffered an upset in his preparation: a right humerus fracture during the Baja Aragon in July. “I don’t feel as strong as in the previous years”. Nothing to worry too much about: “I’m tough and now I know the race rhythm that suits me. But I don’t want to set a sporting goal.”
