Competitors
Since 1979, more than 13 000 men and women have competed in the Dakar.
In 2007: 39% are "rookies" on motorcycles - 27 women will start the rally - 70 % of the competitors are not French
- 245 competitors at the start in the motorcycle category
- 185 in cars
- 85 in trucks
Last year, 45% of the competitors in motorcycle, 39% in cars, and 48% in trucks have arrived in Dakar.
Medias and TV broadcast in 2006
- 550 journalists (written press, radio and photographers) at the start (Portugal) and finish (Dakar) representing almost 300 media
- 160 permanent journalists (written press, radio and photographers) followed the rally
- A 26 minutes feed is produced everyday by the ASO production team and sent all over the world
- 580 hours of TV broadcast in 178 countries
- More than 150 million television viewers in Europe

- 2,3 million unique visitors on the four sites (French, English, Spanish, Portuguese)

Road Safety
- 45 000 comic strips summarizing the safety rules distributed to the local population
- 6 vehicules in the road security patrols deployed all along the rally to signal danger
- 15 people in the patrols dedicated to the security of the populations
- 30 ou 50km/h: the maximum speed allowed in the villages
Logistics
- 28 organisation vehicules (10 vehicules "Contrôle de Passage", 2 vehicules "d’Ouverture", 10 vehicules medicalised "Tangos", 6 TV vehicules)
- 9 trucks in the organisation: (2 trucks "Atelier", 1 truck "d’Ouverture", 4 trucks "Balais", 2 trucks "Atelier" Euromaster)
- 10 helicopters: (1 helicopter "Direction de Course", 1 helicopter "organisation", 1 helicopter "Photographes", 3 helicopters "Médicaux", 4 helicopters "TV")

Catering
- 11 trucks for the catering
- 77 people: 55 serving and 22 in the kitchen

- 1,5 tons of food per day (70% bought in Africa)
