Paul Round: “No-one can ever know all there is to know about the Dakar”

Paul Round has witnessed quite a few aspects of the Dakar. Nine appearances, 6 times as the co-driver of his son Mark, Team manager of Rally Raid UK last year and finally this year a driver for the first time while carrying on being the team manager. Despite knowing the rally extremely well, he insists on mentioning that no-one can ever know all there is to know about the Dakar. And that the person who thinks differently doesn’t understand anything about the race! Indeed this race that Paul Round discovered on TV like so many other competitors seriously changed the person he is today. The Dakar opened his mind and also changed the way he sees things: Africa, the advantages quickly forgotten of a too comfortable life in Northern Europe. The race allowed him to know himself better… This year he will, for the first time, be sitting in the driver’s seat of his Desert Warrior. Next to him, he’ll be able to count on Martin Coulson. He took part in his first Dakar last year as the co-driver of Paul Green. The crew had failed to finish the rally.
