Other items when calculating your budget
Mandatory items

Besides your entry fees and vehicles flat, other expenses need to be taken into consideration for your participation in the Dakar. The following information should help you determine your budget more accurately.

The considerable increase in the price of petroleum products that we are currently experiencing strongly encourages us to recommend that you review your budget for fuel for the 2006 Dakar .
This rise will represent an increase of approximately 30 % on fuel prices for 2006.
We would like to remind you that ASO makes no profit from the sale of fuel, as it is sold at cost price.

 SATELLITE TELEPHONE

The satellite telephone is still mandatory for the assistance category.

For other categories, since the Iritrack satellite monitoring system will enable competitors to communicate with the Race PC, the satellite telephone is no longer mandatory.
Note that communications via IriTrack are restricted to the numbers defined by the organization.
A.S.O. does not lay down any specific make of satellite telephone, the choice of which (brand, hire or purchase) is up to competitors.

 VISAS

You must be in possession of visas for a certain number of countries you go through during the race. So as to facilitate procedures with the different embassies, from September, A.S.O. will propose you a service provider who can carry out the necessary steps for you.

 LICENCES

Each motorbike participant must be in possession of an international IMF license for 2006. Each car and truck participant must be in possession of an international FIA license for 2006. The original of your license must be presented on check day. No license is required for the assistance category.

GPS, BEACON, SENTINEL and IRITRACK SYSTEMS

The GPS, Beacon, Sentinel and IriTrack systems are mandatory for race vehicles. They are comprised in the vehicle lump sum which includes hire of equipment as well as power cord for GPS. The aerial and support for the GPS system are not included in the lump sum.

For the Sentinel system, a pack including the fixation support, power cord and buzzer and/or flash, is proposed by the service provider at a price of €90.

For the IriTrack system, the power cord, the support and the aerial are not included in the registration lump sum.

For the three systems, the power cords, supports and aerials may be re-used for other events.

There is no specific security deposit requested for safety equipment, since you will be asked to pay a one-off security deposit (see above). Should you wish, however, to add options to the equipment proposed or have a second GPS, you must order these directly from the service provider. For this, you will be sent an order form in October.

NB: the security deposit paid to A.S.O. does not cover additional appliances or optional equipment. If there is any additional order, the service provider will ask you for a specific security deposit for the equipment reserved.
