Regulations
In the name of equality

The 2005 Dakar will embody the same principles as the precedent edition. Demanding, varied and faithful to tradition, the route will be shorter, but more intense, so as to provide competitors with the challenge they expect. The best will show their worth via their navigation ability rather than by the performance of their vehicles. Competitors will discover that once again ASO are keen to ensure a balance between the factory teams and the amateurs, the true heroes of this competition.

The preservation of the sporting equality between the two groups, driven by their different but complimentary interests, is at the heart of what we have been working towards this year. The complete reworking of the regulations, undertaken in close collaboration with French and international bodies, allows for example, amateurs access to additional GPS points, via the use of an unblocking code.

The document you have here in your hands is the perfect expression of the direction we wish to take. Via both small adjustments and more important changes, these regulations have
become clearer, more precise and easy to understand for all concerned, competitors and the officials responsible for their application. The careful studying of these regulations should be
considered as the first step in preparing for the rally.
Please do not hesitate to contact either Frederic LEQUIEN, in charge of the competitors’ service or myself for all further information.
