Compulsory items
Besides your entry fees and vehicles flat, other expenses need to be taken into consideration for your participation in the Dakar. The following information should help you determine your budget more accurately.
SATELLITE TELEPHONE
Since last year, a satellite telephone has been compulsory for everyone, further improving security and communications with the organisers in the event of problems.
You will receive offers from service providers in one of the coming mailshots to enable you to place your order.
For information, in 2004, TDCOM offered satellite telephone rental (excluding communications and deposit) for €300.
VISAS
You will need visas for a certain number of countries travelled through during the race. To facilitate your applications at the various embassies, in September, ASO will suggest a service provider able to undertake the various applications for you. For a French driver, the charge is around €60.
LICENCES
Every motorbike participant must have a 2005 international IMF permit. Every auto and truck participant must have a 2005 international IAF permit.
The original permit must be presented on verification day.
No permits are required for the "assistance" category.
GPS AND BEACONS
The GPS and Beacon are compulsory for race vehicles. They are included in the vehicle flat rate which includes both instruments as well as the transmission cable for the GPS. The antenna is not included in the package. No specific deposit now need be made for security equipment: a single deposit will be requested (see above). However, if you want to add options to the equipment, or take a second GPS, you will need to place the order directly with the service provider. An order form will be sent to you in October.
NB: The deposit paid to A.S.O. does not cover additional or optional equipment. In the event of additional orders, the service provider will request a specific deposit for the equipment in question. |
