Spain
Spain will play host to the Start of the Telefonica-Dakar this year for the fourth time. The country’s geographical position as much as its association with the history of the rally, makes it a faithful ally. Granada played host to the first departures from Spain in 1995, 1996 and 1999, and this year Catalonia and its capital Barcelona will launch the Dakar caravan on its journey through Western Africa. Doubtless inspired by the pervading influence of the works of Gaudi, Miro or Dali, the competitors will particularly appreciate the sporting fervour of the people of Barcelona. They will draw precious energy from the enthusiasm of the spectators expected in hordes for the Super Special on the beach in Barcelona.
Legitimate supporters of “Nani” Roma, a native of the town, winner of the 2004 edition in the motorcycle category and this year entered in the car category, the Catalan people will cheer encouragement to all the other contenders too. The Olympic spirit demonstrated during the 1992 Olympic Games and the local celebrations in honour of the Dakar competitors during their first passage through the region in 1987, are sure proof of this.

The loading or towing of motorcycles is strictly forbidden.
