Categories
Creation of a specific classification for quads. Competing in a category recognised in its own right, quad drivers have been given additional legitimacy, reflecting the specificities of their discipline. In addition, the prospect of “winning a prize” should facilitate the search for financing with sponsors.

improved status for 450cc motorbikes.

Auto changes
The FIA is currently involved in arbitration proceedings regarding modifications to the technical regulations. Subject to approval at the World Council meeting in June, the following measures have been adopted:
abolishing of automatic inflation / deflation systems for all categories,
continuation of the 34 restrictor for engines without overhead camshafts,
possibility for 2 wheel drives to use wheels with a 940 cm diamete,
obligation for competitors on the F.I.A.’s list of notoriety to use universal tyres

A.S.O. reserves the right to adopt special measures if the dispositions taken by the FIA do not follow the general direction for the future of the Dakar, and for the balance between the results of professional and amateur competitors.
Truck changes
As the Truck competition is normally reserved for production vehicules, their improved performance over the last few years seems somewhat unreasonable. For reasons of security, ASO has decided to limit their speed to 150 km/hr (systematic control by GPS).
Assistance changes
This year, the number of assistance will be limited to 200 vehicles registrations.
