The rider from northern France, after sixth place in 2016 on his first Dakar and fourth last year just a handful of seconds from the podium, is among the favourites in the bike category. A three times winner of the Enduropale race at Le Touquet, he will be on his preferred terrain for the especially sandy Peruvian stages.

“I’ve been training very intensely until 15 days before the race, so this week is also an opportunity to recharge the batteries. That said, I’m becoming impatient to get stuck into the race. Tomorrow, once we’re at the start of the special, the pressure will be released. I’m really happy to be starting in Peru in the sand. It’s a terrain that I love and I really enjoy myself in the dunes. It’s my third Dakar so far, but it’s also only my third Dakar, so I can be here to learn, but also to want to put on a performance. I think I have the ability to fight for the leading places now, but I’m sure that I will be even better in 2019 than in 2018”.
