The safety of the competitors, public and credentialed persons is priority one of the organizers. Like with all major extreme sporting adventures, the Dakar comes with risks. The organizers do everything possible to limit the risks as much as possible.
Every year all the processes related to safety are reviewed in order to be optimized.

32 wheeled vehicles including 10 paramedic vehicles
60 person nursing staff
22,000 personnel (gendarmes, police, military) for the security of the public and the rally.
