    • Why participate in the Dakar?

      The Dakar is the biggest rally-raid in the world, but above all it is an unforgettable human adventure in which professionals and amateurs fulfil their dreams and accomplish one of the biggest challenges of their lives.

    • Who can enter the Dakar?

      Everyone can enter the Dakar; the only condition is to be at least 18-years of age. You do not need to be a rally-raid champion to take part. The goal of the Dakar is to have both professionals and amateurs participating in the same rally and on the same route. Only Bikes and Quads are subject to a selection. Candidates must be able to justify a first successful experience in Rally Raid. Find here all the selection criteria.

  • Registration:
    • How do you enter?

      Create your account here and manage your entry using the platform.

    • When is the entry deadline?

      The closing of entries for the bikes and quads is July 15. The closing of entries for the cars, SXSs and trucks is November 1st.

    • What does my entry include?

      The entry includes: boat trips for the vehicles (from Europe to South America and the return trip from South America to Europe), the sports rights, medical assistance, meals provided in the bivouac, an insurance (click here for more information about insurance), GPS and safety equipment, the eco contribution and refuelling in the special stages (for bikes and quads only).

  • Procedures required / Mandatory documents to obtain:
    • Should I apply for Visa and should I take care of the customs procedures?

      In September, we will communicate you the list of the nationalities concerned by the visas procedures and the contact of one supplier able to do the visas formalities towards the embassies on your behalf.

    • Do I need insurance to participate in the Dakar?

      We strongly recommend you more than strongly that hold personal medical insurance coupled with individual accidents guarantee.
      Optional insurance will be presented and proposed in the next months and their subscription is recommended to adapt your insurance program to the risks associated with your participation in the rally.

  • Transportation and accommodation:
    • How is the transportation of the vehicles organised?

      The transportation of vehicles is done by ship from Europe to South America as is the return trip from South America to Europe.
      The ports and dates will be published at a later date. Transportation solutions will also be proposed from other major international ports. Click here for more information.

    • Does the organizer handle transportation and accommodations before the departure?

      You are responsible for the travel expenses, accommodation and meals for you and your team before the start.

    • Who do I contact to organise my trip and accommodation?

      Voyage Sport Organisation, the Dakar travel agency, offers transportation and accommodation solutions from the start to the finish of the Dakar.

> During the event

The Dakar Competitors Department is at your disposal in the Central in the bivouac to answer at all your questions about rankings, withdrawn, customs, transportation…

  • Scrutineering:
    • When will the scrutineering take place?

      The administrative and technical scrutineering for Europeans will be held, on convocation, in Le Havre (France) during the boarding process, and for all the other competitors they will be held directly in Lima (Peru).

    • What documents are required for the day of verifications?

      You must present the following original documents (of current validity) on the day of the verifications:

      • A valid passport at least until 30/06/2018
      • Visas (depending on your nationality)
      • Authorization to compete on foreign soil for competitors not having French citizenship
      • A driver’s license corresponding to the category
      • An international FIM or FIA competitor license for the year 2018
      • Vehicle registration or loan authorization

    • What are the applicable technical regulations for the vehicles?

    • What happens if my vehicle does not pass the verifications?

      Vehicles not passing the verifications will not be authorized to start the rally.

  • Health & Safety:
    • What is the safety and medical infrastructure put in place?

    • Is it possible to consult with the doctors during the evening in the bivouac?

      A staff of 60 health care professionals will be at your disposal during the evening in the bivouac (emergency physician, radiologist…)

    • How is care and repatriation carried out in the event of injuries?

      Medical expenses and hospitalisation up to €4500 with the authorization of the rally Medical Director will be covered by the organisers.

  • Safety equipment:
    • What safety equipment should I have?

      The rental of the Unik II GPS, the safety beacon and the Iritrack satellite tracking system are included in your entry fee. Only the GPS provided by the organization is allowed.
      Be careful, the power cables, antennas and the supports are not included in the entry fee and must be subscribed to our technical service providers.
      For safety reasons and the communication among teams, VHF is recommended for all assistance vehicles.

  • Sport / Logistics:
    • Are there any “jokers” in the Dakar?

      There are no jokers in the Dakar because it’s the most selective and prestigious rally raid in the world. However, the sport direction has created this year the “Parallel way Challenge” allowing cars and trucks crews to take parallel route on the most difficult parts of the first week of racing in Peru. Find all condition in the article 23P5 of the car/truck regulations.

    • What happens in the case of withdrawal?

    • How should I behave during the liaison sections in the different countries?

      All accredited drivers (competitors and assistance) on the Dakar must sign a charter, a commitment to proper behaviour before the start of the event. Compliance with all driving laws in the various countries is an absolute necessity. The data recorded by the GPS’ are analysed in order to sanction infractions. Speed checks are also carried out by local law enforcement. On the road, all vehicles are required to have their headlights on.

  • Communication:
    • What are the tools at my disposal to update my social medias during the rally?

      The Dakar organisers, in partnership with PhotoRunning, decided to set up a free system to allow competitors to automatically share photos of them on a daily basis on Facebook.

    • How can my family and friends follow the rally?

      The LiveTracking system allows your family and friends to follow your race in real time with your different check point times, the intermediate classifications, the news flashes from the rally and an interactive map. This turnkey system is customizable with the number of the competitors of your choice and the integration of your promotional banner within the application.

> After the event
    • How are the vehicles repatriated at the end of the rally?

      The vehicles are repatriated by ship from Argentina to Europe. The vehicles will be able for pick up during the month of February, 2018.

    • How can I get photos of my crew?

      Fotop is the official Dakar photo service and proposes several additional offers among which, a customized offer for your digital communication and social media needs.

    • Can I leave my vehicle in one of the Dakar countries after the event if it is not my country of origin?

      No vehicles, even if partially or totally destroyed, can be left in one of the Dakar countries after the event. For more information, refer to the article 29P4 of the car/truck regulations.
