Maksimov in for a blast

Never count out a Russian on a quad when it comes to the Dakar. The example of Sergei Kariakin back in 2017 says it all. Not many would have imagined him beating the South American specialists on their home soil. Well, Aleksandr Maksimov could be one of the good surprises of the Dakar to come. At 43 years of age, the rider from Yoshkar-Ola in the Volga Province of Russia is not the youngest but certainly impressed when he conquered the Silk Way Rally back in July and threatened the almighty Manuel Andujar in Morocco, eventually finishing second. Winner of the FIM cross-country World Cup back in 2018 and third of the competition this year, Maksimov will be in the battle for top positions in the deserts of Saudi Arabia that he’ll be discovering.
