“Back on the Dakar with our small jewell”
Paolo Calabria, Loris Calubini and Giuseppe Fortuna are more than a crew, it’s a family, a group of friends united by the same passion: living the rally raid as protagonists. Together with Giulio Verzelletti, Giacomo Verzelletti and Antonio Cabini of the Orobica raid, they supported the unique project of the PanDakar till the finish line in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As their incredible mission was accomplished, they started to think about a new challenge: building a prototype racing truck. Proud of this project started from scratch, they will be at the start of the Dakar with their own “baby”.
“We needed a new challenge after we succeeded to bring the PanDakar to the finish line after many attempts, the first one with Miki Biasion in Africa. After we withdrew from the Dakar 2018 because the route was too demanding for our Unimog, we started to think to a new project. Together with Giulio (Verzelletti) and Loris (Calubini) we decided to build our own racing truck. So we did, building from scratch our own racing truck to race in the prototype category. We put together our skills and know-how. I designed the chassis, the transmission and so on. Loris took care of the mechanical parts, the engine, the gearbox, etc. After 2 years of hard work, scarifying a lot of free time that we could dedicate to our families, here we are: in May 2019 our small jewel, powered by a Man engine 900 hp, was ready to be tested. We did some tests in Italy and then in Tunisia. Our target is to compete and finish the Dakar in order test in the hardest conditions and fine tune the project and then in the future to fight for a good result”.
