The need for adventure was the reason for William de Groot and his crew to return to the Dakar after a year of absence. Peru is another good reason for him. Not only because of the landscape and the amount of sand and dunes, but also because he has a lot of business partners in the region. De Groot, who is together with his brother the third generation of a family business in fruit import and export, travels to South America a lot. It’s an important market for him and that’s why he has the slogan ‘Dale cana’ in Spanish on the back of his truck. The Dutchman was thinking of entering the 2018 edition but family matters kept him home.
W.d.G.: “My business is importing fruit into Europe and my main suppliers and business partners are from South and Latin America. From Peru we bring grapes, mango, avocado and organic fruits, mainly bananas, into the Netherlands. It’s our ultimate challenge to be part of a such an international event with our team, which is held in the backyard of our suppliers, who are just crazy about the Dakar. Their support is an extra motivation to do well in such a beautiful and hospitable country like Peru.”
