After a promising Dakar debut in 2013, where he finished in 27th place, Siarhei Viazovich followed that up with an impressive 11th place in 2014, finishing 8 of the 13 stages in the Top 10. In 2015 he could only manage 34th place overall but again showed his speed by getting into the Top 4 on four stages, with a best result of 2nd on Day 2. It looked like it was all set for Siarhei to combine pace with consistency in 2016 but sadly he went out on Stage 8 while lying in 24th place overall. Back with the same mechanic and navigator for the third consecutive year the Belarussian finished 13th in 2017. He couldn’t miss the Dakar 40th edition and here he is.
“What is special about MAZ is that we are colleagues and after work we are friends. Today my hobby (rally and rally raids) is also my job so I’m really happy. The highlight of my Dakar participations remains the 11th place in 2014 and the best memories is when we finished second or third in some special stages. I look forward to the 2018 Dakar 40th. Every year is different and every Dakar is special. Our target is to do a great race and hopefully fighting for the podium. Rally is not only my passion, it’s my lifestyle. I’m only 38 and I feel I’m lucky. My presence in the factory team MAZ and the possibility to participate in the rally raids on the trucks it’s a lucky case. Not everyone gets this chance. I’m very grateful to the destiny for this opportunity”.
Siarhei Viazovich continúa dando muestras de regularidad en el Dakar con su primera victoria en Chilecito, 1’24’’ por delante del nuevo líder del rally Federico Villagra.
