For close to two decades now, one team has dominated the truck race more than any other, based on the quality of their machine, the collective force of their entire squad and the experience gathered throughout the years. Kamaz have indeed won 15 of the last 22 Dakar rallies. One new team seem to be inspired by such dominance and are using the same ingredients to close in on victory. MAZ can indeed count on the support of the Minsk Automobile Plant that produce trucks and buses made in Belarus. And on the Dakar they show up with three competitive crews all focused on putting one of the trucks on the highest step of the podium. While Siarhei Viazovich seems to be the established leader thanks to his second spot last year, the rising star of MAZ Autosport is Aliaksei Vishneuski. The 26-year-old appeared on the event two years ago, clinching a promising 21st position. Alongside his team mates Maksim Novikau and Aliaksei Neviarovich, he carried on impressing on the first stages of the 40th edition (3rd after day 3), eventually finishing in 14th place. Vishneuski will be hoping to continue climbing up the standings and certainly has both the talent and the truck to, at least, enter the Top 10.
“Dakar for me is a dream from my childhood. Since I was a young, I raced in motorsport: carting, drift and now rally raids. I watched Dakar on TV and now I have the chance to participate in it and to stand for my team and for my country”.
