At the age of four, he was already either riding a mini-moto or a BMX, or was being the steering wheel of a go-kart. Several years later Blade Hildebrand started competing as a pro and winning races on the US off-road scene. And that fine start to his motorsports career has now taken him to the world’s toughest off-road rally, the Dakar. Alongside his mentor Robby Gordon with whom he competes in the Stadium Super Truck series, Blade will be driving a Textron XX Off-road side by side vehicle. At his side, the young American will have a man who knows the Dakar by heart: former biker Jonah Street. After appearing on the race for the first time back in 2006 (on African soil), the man from Ellensburg, Washington, went on to conquer a 7th spot in 2010 and even won a stage a year later on his KTM. He then switched to cars, helping out another young rookie, Sheldon Creed, back in 2016. His second experience as a co-driver should be no different to the previous one, only this time he wants to reach the finish.
B.H. : “Dakar, Yeah it’s that real! This is a race I’ve followed all my life, and to represent Team SPEED and the USA at the international level, competing against the worlds best off-road racers in the most gruelling race known to man. What an absolute honor! To partner with my mentor Robby Gordon, I have the right people on my side, and I am ready for the ultimate challenge.” J.S.: "I think Blade is super talented, so getting to work with him in his first trip to Dakar is going to be awesome. Having navigated for Sheldon (Creed) back in 2016 gives me the prior experience to help get him up to SPEED quickly!"
