Dakar 2022 - Stage 1A | Sanders and Al-Attiyah earn sanding ovation
FOCUS
The 409 vehicles on the start list inaugurated the Dakar like never before. After departing Jeddah along the Red Sea for a northbound 225 km transfer, the starting shot for the qualifying stage was fired at the entrance to the Medina region. The opening 19 km sprint was a sign of things to come: sandy tracks and dunes in an all-sand timed sector...
Andújar takes the opener
Manuel Andújar started his title defence in style by claiming the inaugural special. The Argentinian was 19 seconds faster than Alexandre Giroud and 31 seconds quicker than Giovanni Enrico.
First quads wrap it up!
Tomáš Kubiena and Ítalo Pedemonte have made short work of the 19 km micro-special and are tied at just over 15 minutes. However, we have to wait until big names such as Manuel Andújar, Pablo Copetti and Giovanni Enrico are done to find out who the winner is.
