Lima here we come: dunes a plenty!

On completion of the first 5 stages that have brought the riders, drivers and crews to Arequipa, there are still 247 vehicles left in the race on the 41st edition of the Dakar (105 bikes, 18 quads, 93 cars, including 24 SxS, and 32 trucks), which is the lowest number of participants left at the mid-way point since 2007 (74%). Rest day in Arequipa

Peru’s second largest city was also the first town to host the Dakar during the 2012 edition. It also served as a bivouac in 2013 and then in 2018, but this is the first time that such a long stay has been planned. The assistance crews and a portion of the organisation team will remain in place while the race vehicles compete in the marathon stage. The rest day will also be organised in Arequipa. Before the return to action (stage 6), the bikes and quads will leave on liaison this rest day bivouac during the evening to head to bivouac near the start of the special stage.
