Kevin Benavides: “I still believe”

Dakar 2022 | Stage 8 | AL DUWADIMI > HAIL
January 10 th 2022 - 13:17 [GMT + 3]

The title holder lost 36 minutes on the second special this year, but his work is starting to pay off: he now occupies sixth place, 14 minutes behind the general rankings leader Sam Sunderland.

“It was a really good day for me. I pushed a lot. Also, Nacho Cornejo did a really good job. I had a problem with my fuel pump, so I had to pass the fuel from the front to the rear. I had to stop two times, so I lost, like, eight minutes more or less. Afterwards, the guys in front made a mistake with the navigation, so I caught up with them here at the end, so we pushed together until the last kilometres. It was hard work to recover the time lost and to continue pushing, everything is about motivation and attitude. I think it’s good to have the confidence that everything can happen. I will try to continue this way. I think this stage was really good. I am pushing every day. My strategy now is to try and be fast but also very careful with navigation. Everything is possible in the rally, everything can happen, so I still believe”.
