Vratny’s comeback!

For the first time in five years, Tomas Vratny is set to line up on the Dakar. The Czech team owner and driver makes his comeback at the head of the ambitious Fesh Fesh team, who are travelling to Saudi Arabia with no fewer than four trucks -Kamaz eat your heart out! Tomas will be driving a Ford Cargo Evo 1 that the team have been racing since 2020; it's the only Ford lining up in the class this year. Elsewhere, Albert Llovera (#519) drives with the team for the third time after 2016 and 2018 in an Iveco Powerstar, Vaidotas Paskevicius (#529) heads up an all-Lithuanian, all-rookie crew in a Tatra Jamal Evo 1, and Radovan Kazarka (#901) is joined by the legendary Josef Kalina in the Dakar Classic, driving a Tatra 815 inspired by the ‘Puma’ of six-time winner Karel Loprais. Suffice it to say that Tomas is in for a busy few weeks as he looks to improve on his best Dakar result to date: 14th place in 2015. The 46-year-old took part in five consecutive editions in South America and always made it to the finish line. For Dakar 2022 he is joined by highly experienced mechanic Jaromir Martinec, who has taken part in the Dakar a dozen times and came as high as second with Brazil's Andre de Azevedo in 2003. Polish navigator Bartomiej Boba meanwhile makes his debut, having started working with the team in 2020. After races in Spain and Poland this year, Tomas had a chance to do some testing in Morocco recently, and he is satisfied that his Ford will be up to the task. Formerly known as the Bonver Dakar Project, Fesh Fesh will be coming to Saudi Arabia with no fewer than 32 team members, and there is bound to be a jovial atmosphere on their stand as they try to ensure that all four trucks make it safely to the finish line in Jeddah.
