“An incredible sports and human experience”
Andrea Schiumarini made his debut on the 2019 Dakar, the 100% Peru edition that offered a demanding route and complete menu of sand, dunes and open fields. For him, grew up with the myth of Thierry Sabine and many nights spent in front of the TV to follow the Dakar, when it was still in Africa, it was a dream come true and a mission accomplished. He did in fact an intelligent race and crossed the finish line in Lima in 54th position. This year Schiumarini is back for a new challenge as the Dakar Rally writes its third chapter in Saudi Arabia. The Italian will share the cockpit of the Mitsubishi Pajero with Enrico Gaspari, as his first experience on the Dakar, and the support of the R-Team RalliArt as last year.
“Last year it was a sort of baptism and the greatest satisfaction was to finish the rally after so many obstacles and difficulties found of the way. As soon as I was over, I started thinking on how to come back because it was an incredible sports and human experience. When I met Enrico (Gaspari), my co-driver, we started thinking at a new project and how to find the budget to make it real. Our great efforts paid well and we will be at the start in Jeddah with a completely new car that R-Team built for us: a Mitsubishi Pajero WRC+, that will allow us to fight for important positions”.

Schiumarini calls on his support crew
Andrea Schiumarini, sitting in 53rd place overall this morning, was vying to improve on his Dakar debut last year, but the Italian will lose plenty of time today after stopping with his support crew 58 km into the special due to a problem with his axletree.
