“Watching my dream come true”
While fellow compatriots Al Rajhi and Seaidan already have the experience of having lived several Dakar rallies in cars, Abdul Majeed Al Khulaifi will not only be discovering the event, he’ll also be the first Saudi Arabian to compete in the quad class. His racing career started on a bike in enduro and motocross events. He then switched to rallies and quads. After competing in the FIM Baja World Championships for quads, the 39-year-old engineer has proven that he certainly has the speed. On home soil he’ll also have the advantage of knowing the terrain by heart. Yet, riding a Yamaha, a question remains: can Al Khualifi last the distance and fight for a top spot over 12 days?
“I’ve always dreamt of doing the Dakar and I’m now watching my dream come true and that started when I saw my name on the list of participants. I started competing in rallies in 2013 after being an enduro and motocross rider from 2007. My aim is to finish the Dakar and gain experience from the champions around me. Every year, my goal was to take part in the Dakar so when it was announced that the event was coming to Saudi Arabia, I knew I couldn’t miss that opportunity.”
