“We should be able to be in the top fifteen”
On the Dakar 2010, Mathias Behringer, Hugo Kupper and Siegfried Schadl will have their fourth outing in the HS RallyeTeam’s T4 race truck. The crew is mainly respon-sible for servicing the Fast&Speed buggy driven by Matthias Kahle and Thomas M. Schünemann if it runs into trouble within a stage. Despite that, Behringer and his crew have scored excellent results in recent years. On the Silk Way Rally, Behringer/Kupper/Schadl came first in the production class. The German and Dutch crew also showed an impressive performance on the Dakar 2009 coming 15th overall. “Our priority is to help Matthias Kahle und Thomas Schünemann as quickly as possi-ble if their buggy faces problems. Our own result is secondary. If everything works fine on the Dakar, we should be able to be in the top fifteen.”
The driver: Mathias Behringer was German Autocross Champion in the category Specialcross in 2002. In 2004 and 2005, he just missed the European Autocross title coming second in the final standings. On his debut appearance at the Dakar, Behringer finished the event in 36th position. One year later, he celebrated his best rally raid result so far claiming sixth overall on the Transorientale 2008.
The vehicle: For the Dakar 2009, Behringer/Kupper/Schadl swapped their old MAN truck for the new MAN 18x480 4x4 BB. The new T4 race truck with a 12.5-litre en-gine and 550 bhp proved to be extremely reliable. Despite its weight of 9.5 tonnes, the 4x4 truck crosses every terrain without any problems.
