“My ambition? Finish one place behind Van Den Brink”
Pascal De Baar has witnessed different lives on the Dakar. When he started, back in 2005, he was riding a bike. Three Dakar rallies and two withdrawals later, he switched to the truck class in a Ginaf truck he bought from Hans Bekx and created the very popular Dutch Team Dakar. His truck career took a serious turn in 2012 when he joined the very strong Veka-MAN squad, managing his best ever performance on the Dakar last year when he crossed the line in 17th spot. But it was time to switch to something else and when Martin Van Den Brink of Mammoet Rally asked him to join his project, off he went. De Baar who discovered his new Ginaf X222 during the Silk Way Rally as a navigator for Van Den Brink, will this year be a precious ally for his team mate who will be battling it out for a Top 5 spot. In his truck he'll count on the help of mechanic Martin Roesink and former partner of Martien Hol, Edwin Lagerweij.
P.D.B.: “We tested last summer during the Silk Way Rally which was great but now they have changed the engine and partly thanks to a new exhaust we draw another 200 bhp from that engine. It's truly magnificent: you're just screaming of fun in that truck. When Martin (Van Den Brink) told me that they were going to build three new trucks and that he wanted me to drive the second one, I immediately said yes. My goal is ensuring that Martin enters the Top 10 and perhaps the top 5... My ambition? To finish one place behind him!”
