“On the Dakar you need to adjust”
Unlike so many competitors, the Dakar was never a dream for Gert Huzink but after discovering the event as a visitor, it wore on him. The successful business man is a driver with ambition and he only wanted to do the rally if it was in a competitive team. He's found that and will be able to count on the experience of Swiss co-driver Eugénie Decré who will be living her fourth Dakar. Although both have never competed side by side, they hope for great results. Not only for themselves, but for the whole team. Indeed team spirit is maybe Gert Huzink's biggest asset. And hopefully that could help one of the three Mitsubishi Lancer cars enter the Top 10.
“The Dakar was actually never a dream. Seven or eight years ago, someone asked me to come and I thought: ‘No, I'll never drive the Dakar'. I then started competing in rallies. Last year I came to Argentina to see what the Dakar was like and I liked what I saw. The great atmosphere. To do the Dakar and needed a good care and good material. In the team we want a driver in the Top 10. After a few days things will settle down and I'll see if I can help. It's important to act as a team and finish as a team. The three drivers (himself, Ten Brinke, Wevers) all want to be in the Top 10. I was able to test in Morocco and compete in the rally over there and I didn't take any risks. I had a good feeling and gained confidence. It'll be my first race with my co-driver Eugenie Decré. It's a pity we didn't have the opportunity to compete together. We don't know each other in the car but we've talked a lot. She has a lot of experience and she can give me that experience. We're ready, we're fit, we have a good car. Why should we be worried?”
