Marek Dabrowski (POL): “I want to get close to my best performance overall”
Marek Dabrowski wouldn’t quite say that he knows the Dakar like his pocket but he admits that he is part of the experienced biker’s category. For quite some years now, he has started the rally alongside his friend Jacek Czachor (10th in 2004). Marek Dabrowski is indeed in love with Africa and with the Dakar. One of those tough individuals that suffering and disappointments will never discourage. Last year he injured himself when falling during the UAE Desert Challenge. His injury was certainly a problem but didn’t prevent him however from being at the start of the rally. Marek hung on but the pain was just too serious and forced him to retire in Morocco. The appearances/finishes ratio in Dakar remains very good (4/6) for Dabrowski, who had impressed back in 2004 when he had finished the rally in an excellent ninth position. A performance that he would like to repeat by applying the same advice that he gives to the rookies around him: never take risks and sometimes learn to only ride at 50% of your possibilities in order to privilege a tactical side to the race… Indeed this experienced biker knows too well that the Dakar is an elimination race. Many of the opponents that he overtakes are simply stopped on the side of the track, part of those who were unlucky or weren’t careful enough. Save on the material and keep gasoline for the end, that’s his recipe and it certainly has paid off in the last few years.
