Total, Official partner

Total will once again be lending its support to the “DAKAR” in 2005, aiming to demonstrate its loyalty to an event that reflects the Group's own values, such as audacity, company spirit and solidarity.

Beyond its title of official partner, Total's involvement will be focused on its two main purposes:

• providing assistance to competitors via the Total Fair-play Trophy and the Elf Motorcycle Trophy.
The Total Fair-Play Trophy. At the end of each stage, this honour – along with a prize of € 1,000 – will be awarded to an especially meritorious competitor, whether they be in the motorcycle, car, truck or assistance-vehicle category. Values rewarded will include courage, perseverance, helping others and sportsmanship.
The Elf Motorcycle Trophy. This offers participating amateur motorcyclists a “products” grant, logistical and technical assistance provided by a specially dedicated aircraft, and last but not least, psychological and moral support. A bonus (€ 15,000, divided between the top five) will be awarded at the end of the race.

• Fuel supply.
The Total group boasts close and special links with the African continent. Being present in over 40 African countries makes the Group the ideal logistical partner for the organiser, A.S.O. Thanks to thorough organisation, taking place over several months, the Group is able to refuel the impressive fleet of air and land-based vehicles, whether at bivouacs set up at airfields, or in the heart of the desert (in-race refuelling for motorcycles and helicopters).

Finally, as has become customary, Total will be doing everything it can – especially via its partners – to help everyone experience the extraordinary adventure of the Dakar, on television, radio, in the press and on the Internet.
